A Very Recipe #非常皮蛋#買就送 #EXSTRANGE
(2017-03-0116:15:12-2017-03-08 16:15:12)
#exstrange  is a live exhibition project that uses the online marketplace eBay as a site of curatorial operation, artistic production and cultural exchange within the geographical boundaries enabled by the commercial platform we are adopting — the various ‘national’ eBay sites. #exstrange is a series of “artworks as auctions” created for eBay, using the entire listing (descriptive text, images, pricing, and categories) as material to build the artwork. Exhibited for 7 days only, these site-specific artworks use eBay’s categories (Real Estate, Healthcare, Agriculture, and Personal Security, …) to reach particular audiences beyond physical barriers. Each auction is maintained by its creator so that bidder interactions and comments are incorporated in real time as part of the work, and this website maps the interactions between sellers and bidders. The curators — Marialaura Ghidini and Rebekah Modrak — created #exstrange to explore collective strategies of production and communication online that enable meaningful encounters between passers-by and auctions, and between artists and audiences.

Time: Performance 8:30p.m. | Meet The Artists Session 9:15 p.m.
Venue : City University of Hong Kong, Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, M1060 Multimedia Theater
About "Poet, Dancer, And Another One"

The Poet,
"In The Middle Of Nowhere.
We talked about the meaning of "Island 島 " In autumn in Zurich, you said when there is still bird flying above the mountain, there is island. In summer in Kanazawa, you said when migrating birds fly from the south to the north, the place where they stop in middle of the ocean, there is island.

The Dancer
I'm sailing in the fog/No sail/I’m wandering under the moon
No anchor/No destination
From here, the road disappears/Night disappear from here
Not beacons/No clear boundaries
Only spray prayers of cliffs/Leaving dreary traces of years/And a little dignified memorial

The Another One (Litter Bug)
The Litter sails across the sea, the Bug drifts with the current.
I always perspire and feel dizzy. I often fear of fainting. I have a terror of thunderstorms, ghosts, burglars, snakes! I do not dare to expect anything of others or to set high goals for myself. I do not dare to approach people who seem superior to me in any way; I do not dare to express an opinion even thought I may have a real contribution to make; I do not dare to exercise creative abilities even when I have them; I do not dare to make myself attractive, to try to impress, to seek a better position… I am a shadow without weight and substance.

VPN/Very Productive Nation

Artists:Chang Yuchen, Li Weiyi, Liu Qinmin, Liu Yushan, Ni Jun, Qin Xiaoshi, Wang Fei, Wu Jiaru
Curator:Yu Ying
Opening:September 24th 2016, 4pm
Exhibition:Sep 24th-Nov 20th 2016
Venue:Ying Space, Red No.1-A3, Caochangdi, Chaoyang District, Beijing

Ying Space will be presenting the group exhibition: VPN / Very Productive Nation on September 24th 2016. The exhibition features eight artists long been concerned by Yu Ying more as an artist himself than a curator. In one way or another, these artists all personally break the GFW to work and live in a different nation. Though being involved in the discrepancy among various art systems, they have never been away from the “local” context constructed by the Chinese Internet. Together with the “entrepreneurial generation” , they are fostered by the Chinese Internet with emerging capital, web control and global vision, and share the same network experience and identity verification that result from it.

The exhibition provides a comprehensive view of the artist’s distinctive practices: from the bilingual art media established by Ni Jun in New York in the early 90s to the concept of “Three Steps to the Headline” promoted by choreographer Liu Qinmin and “Media Hack” Zhu Shenhaochen; from architect Wang Fei’s Taobao Village Plan to Qin Xiaoshi’s “Move” project with a sense of melancholy brought by PRD urban transition; from Li Weiyi constantly setting up institutions like Re-publication, Currently Available and Big Bad Gallery to Chang Yuchen running “Use Value”, a brand of hand-made products, the price of which set according to her wage working part time in restaurants; from the paintings of Liu Yushan deeply influenced by American Abstract Expressionism to the New Media works of Wu Jiaru that constantly refers to Francis Bacon.

TheSeparated Rooms | 隔壁

The Separated Rooms sheds light on the unique listening experience and primary medium of such transmission, the space. Five artists approach sound with manifested and nuanced perspectives. By responding to the infrastructure of an ordinary yet uncanny site, the artists create a momentary situation that visualizes inaudible sound - Hissing and roaring, soft and loud, slow and fast, rational yet surrealistic, intimate but irritating, biological and psychological… While a contemplative image is multi-layered, and juxtaposed with the urbanscape, sound resonates and ricochets within a confined everyday life setting, and it finally dissolved into the space...
